The Boys Wrestling Southern Section CIF Championships were hosted by Fallbrook HIgh School on February 9th, 2019. San Pasqual High School had four placers, as Fernando Reyes placed second, Kameron Davis placed third, Irvin Aguilar placed seventh, and Cesar Maddox placed seventh. Seniors who competed at CIF have one last chance to give it everything they have.

Athletic Trainers Department Makes Positive Impact on San Pasqual Students

San Pasqual High School’s Athletic Trainers Department helps student athletes with their health and also gives students opportunities of experience, career possibilities, and community service. The department allows students to apply and participate as a trainer. In order to become a student trainer, the application process consists of an essay as to why the student wants to join, being CPR certified, and having first aid certification. Samantha Guevara is one of the student trainers in the department, and she is able to aid athletes at games and practices when needed.

Boys Golf Tees Off On the Season

San Pasqual High School is nearing the final months of the 2018-2019 school year, which means that spring sports, including boys golf, are in action. The varsity boys golf coach, assistant football coach, social studies teacher, and health/CCR teacher Vincent Silva recaps this year’s tryouts on February 4th, and reveals the hopes and goals he has for the rest of the 2019 boys golf season: “Tryouts went well. We had several students come out with various levels of skill. Each student participated in a skills clinic and we determined which students were best able to contribute to the program,” Silva said. “We ended up making a few cuts. Unfortunately, we cannot keep everyone, as that would limit our students’ ability to play in matches and gain experience.”

Softball Team Shares Keys to Success

The San Pasqual High School varsity softball team is off to an impressive start, as they are currently carrying a winning record. They recently competed in the Cougar Classic at Kit Carson Park, a tournament for various high schools from San Diego County. The team is satisfied with their performance so far this season, as they made it to the championship game of their tournament.

Aftermath of Boys Basketball CIF Championship

The San Pasqual High School boys basketball team claimed the California Interscholastic Federation championship on Feb. 21, 2019 at Montgomery High School. They won by a total of seven points with a score of 49-42. It has been 28 years since San Pasqual last won a CIF title. They have been working hard and practicing since the fall. But, after 28 years of not having a CIF title in boys basketball, the San Pasqual team has brought it home.

Cheer Has Big Win at Nationals

San Pasqual High School is the home of national champions. The competition cheer brought all they had when they won at the national competitions Jamz in Las Vegas. For the past few months, Debbie Clark, one of the cheer coaches at San Pasqual, has been preparing the competition cheer team for the biggest thing in the cheer world, Nationals, which they won.

Water polo isn’t the only water sport that San Pasqual High School offers its students.The swim & dive team tryouts took place on February 4. Swim and dive is among the seven spring sports that have started this year. Senior, varsity swimmer, and team captain for the girls swim team Isabella Pulido described the season since its start and discussed the goals that she has for the rest of the 2019 swim season.

The start of spring sports means it is almost time for the final Jersey Night of San Pasqual High School’s academic year.Athletes participating in boys golf, swim and dive, boys tennis, baseball, track and field, boys volleyball, and softball will assemble with their respective teams and have their names announced. The time at Jersey Night brings the players and families to their feet as the athletes get recognized for their new season.

On January 12, 2019, the fourth annual San Pasqual High School girls wrestling home meet began at 9:30 am, and the San Pasqual team had been at the school since 6 am. Over 40 teams and nearly 300 wrestlers attended. The girls wrestling team is up at the school the night before their tournament setting up mats for hours. Then they have to be back at the school before 6 am to start the tournament.
