December 5th, Noche Buena was celebrated by our school’s community. Noche Buena is the celebration of Christmas Eve, and it’s more guided to honor the Hispanic culture. The event was filled with cultural foods, art, and performances. Many people bonded through the music performed by musicians and the captivating choreographed dances.
Maya Nuñez, a freshman here at San Pasqual, was one of the performers at Noche Buena. She is a proud member of the Ballet Folklórico and happily dances with her peers. Ballet Folklórico are highly choreographed dances that express life, spirit, and culture through their movement and music. Her turnout on the Noche Buena was positive overall, stating, “People showed up, and the performances were great!” She enjoyed the dances performed throughout the night and looks forward to doing them again next year.
The Noche Buena was significant to her because “it’s to showcase Hispanic culture.” The main focus was to spread the different customs and traditions to people unfamiliar and familiar. Maya’s favorite part of Noche Buena was “having everyone together and bonding over our culture.” Maya hopes that in the future, the ballet folklórico will grow in popularity and that it will become a class.
“We really care about it, and we want more people to care about it and think it’s cool.” She continues to showcase Hispanic culture for everyone to see.
