If one of the first things you notice when you walk through the gates of San Pasqual is the exposed wooden frames and the loud drilling noises, you’re not alone; many students of the SP campus are wondering what is being constructed near the MPR.
The renovation is happening primarily to expand the food service area. In an interview with Assistant Principal Mr. Kevin Myers, it was noted that “[The building being worked on] is gonna have up to 10 speed lines… kids could get in and get out much faster.” Essentially, for those buying food, look forward to faster lines! Mr. Myers continues, “We hope the new cafeteria will be open before February… We’ll have the speed lines open.” The purpose of this renovation is partly shelter from extreme weather, but also to speed up lunch lines – improving, likely, from 6 lines to 10 “speed lines”. Mr. Myers also mentioned that the additional security and supervisors will continue to be tasked with preventing students from cutting lines and other misbehavior. Future construction and renovation loom near: in March, expect to see the culinary lab move from room 104 to room 601, complete with new equipment.
The upgrades nearing $600,000 to complete. Improvements to the Visual & Performing Arts (VAPA) as well as the relocation of the ASB room were also mentioned. The walls of San Pasqual should also be prepared for a fresh coat of paint sometime in the second semester: as Mr. Myers says, “…as soon as [the painters are] done with Escondido High School.” Hopefully, as you walk out the gates of San Pasqual, you’ll leave with the image of a new cafeteria, and your ears ringing from your own excitement of our school’s future.
