Your Voice Matters: Election Day

Sora Shimazaki @pexels.com

Tomorrow, people will head to the polls to cast their ballots for the next President of the United States.

From the Republican party is Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance. And from the Democratic Party is Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.

Currently, it is quite a tight race, with discrepancies in the single digits. The tensions are high and people are greatly anticipating the final reveal. But amongst the great tensions, we are met with another concern. According to an article by Tufts’ CIRCLE, “In the next presidential election, 40.8 million members of Gen Z (ages 18-27 in 2024) will be eligible to vote, including 8.3 million newly eligible youth (ages 18-19 in 2024).”

While this does mean that many members of Gen Z now have the option to vote, there is still a need for many of us to make that inherent choice. Oftentimes, older generations have a greater inclination to vote. But the future of the government affects us greatly as well and we now have the power to have a say in it.

Changing the nation begins with utilizing your ability to have a say in our government and together we can create our future. So if you are of age, do yourself a favor and go vote!
