SPHS is iconic for their outstanding football team, and it best demonstrates the school’s spirit and pride. This year was filled with electrifying highlights, and the most highly anticipated game was The Battle of the Bear against Orange Glen.
The Battle of the Bear is the annual game that has determined the best of both schools, and SPHS has held onto a winning streak for more than two decades. The stadium’s roaring cheers and high spirits motivated the Varsity team to destroy Orange Glen once again with an amazing score of 56-0! The SPHS team placed into CIF Championships, and the furthest they have accomplished this year was the playoffs! Overall, the score for the SPHS football team was 6-5.
The football team further demonstrates the school’s pride with several players who made all league. For instance, Josh Roberts, Marcus Rocha, Robert Renteria, and Josue Ledesma are several examples of outstanding players of the team. Football players like Manny Adeiza and Josh Roberts also played in an all-star game for our school.
Coach Trujillo, one of the school’s assistant football coaches, states that the team’s biggest accomplishment of the year was “winning league, and becoming valley champs.” He reveals that the football team motivates its players by “team building”, and the players maintain their morale with bonding moments. Coach Trujillo’s goal for next season is to “repeat as valley league champs, and to make a run for CIF championship.” For the future students who plan to pursue football, Coach Trujillo wants them “to be ready to work hard, to commit”, and “to become a champion for life.”
