What’s Happening In Texas?

Texas was hit with one of their worst blizzards ever. To make matters worse they do not have water nor power for almost a week now.

The year 2021 has gotten even more unnatural. Texas is currently experiencing its worst winter weather in recent years. The temps got as low as 20 degrees leaving 70,000 in the dark and 14.4 million with water issues. By Saturday, Houston’s water system was at “normal operating pressure citywide” but a boil advisory remained in effect, according to Carol Haddock, Houston Public Works director.

Mayor Sylvester Turner said the advisory could be lifted by Monday but warned that it “could be a day or two on either end.” Unfortunately 47 civilians have died from events happening in attempts to get supplies, stay warm, or drive away from the madness.

“I understand we live in a less-cared-for neighborhood, but we’re human like everyone else,” said Justin Chavez, who had been living with his wife and eight children in a home without power in San Antonio for days. “The city should have been on top of this. What am I paying my taxes for?”

Just like Chavez, others are also displeased with the way senior authorities have handled the distress amongst the state. Austin’s mayor, Steve Adler, had urged residents to use electricity as sparingly as possible in hopes of staving off further shutdowns, using flashlights and candles if able.

“If you have power, please try to live almost like you don’t,” said Mr. Adler. “If you have heat, run it low. Run it lower.” Texas is bound to change after an event like this but the travesties will always stay with it.
