There are many reasons to use marijuana, including to help with depression or to relieve stress. Medical marijuana can also be utilized to help with issues like epilepsy, nausea, or pain.
There has also been a recent spike in marijuana usage among seniors. One of those seniors is Carol Collin.
“About two years ago she (Collin) began eating a marijuana ‘gummy’ each night before bed to help with sleep,” according to the CNN article “Marijuana use is rising sharply among seniors, study says, and there are serious risks”.
Collin reports that she consumes the gummy to improve her sleep. She also takes a topical cream and it helps her. The usage for medical marijuana is rising at a rapid pace. Even those who’ve never touched a drug want it.
“In 2006, only 0.4 percent of seniors over 65 reported using marijuana products in the past year, they said. The newly published study found that by 2015, the number had doubled to 2.4 percent,” according to the aforementioned CNN article. “By 2018, it had doubled again, with 4.2 percent of seniors over 65 using weed.”
As helpful as cannabis can be, it can also harm the consumer’s health. Marijuana is something wanted so badly that it is being used in ways not recommended by specialists, like treatment for diabetes.
“Unlike cancer or Parkinson’s, diabetes is not a disease for which marijuana would typically be considered,” according to Dr. Benjamin Han in the CNN article.
